Getting a Truck No Longer Like Hailing a Cab

As Keynote speaker at the 25th Annual Convention of the Transportation Intermediaries Association (TIA), Vernon E. Garner stated the obvious when he pointed out that "getting a truck is no longer like hailing a cab." He discussed the challenges faced by the trucking industry today including security, insurance, driver hires and fuel costs.

As Chairman of the American Trucking Associations (ATA) Board of Directors, Garner talked about the complexity of brokering freight today and presented updates and trends on the trucking industry today. Referring to the war in Iraq, Garner pointed out that General Patton said in World War II that "the truck is our most valuable weapon." Garner stated that the same adage applies in the current conflict.

As head of the Garner Transportation Group, Garner runs both a trucking and a freight brokerage operation.
