The Wonder

Never Satisfied

When I sing this song, I think about a conversation my husband and I had once as I was preparing to record it. I told him it was the one song on my CD that I had the most trouble relating to. (Can you say "pride before a fall"???) I told him I felt so incredibly blessed in life and quite content. He then gently reminded me of areas that are more subtle and yet still tempting to attach the attitude to of wanting more or newer or better. I feel like in our society and rich, rich country, it’s far too easy to lose sight of what matters and how rich we already are. Bottom line is that if everything else was stripped away and all we had left was the gift of salvation, we have all we could ever ask or long for.

The Best Is Yet To Be

I’ve probably sung this song more than any other off the project. This song was kind of birthed from a saying that my in-laws have several places in their house. It’s been special to them and it says “Grow old with me, the best is yet to be.” The song was written by my husband and a couple of good friends. I’m sure they never thought that in less than 2 years, we’d be singing it for one of those friends’ father’s funeral. He passed away from cancer, but the legacy he left was one of love and faithfulness to his family and his Lord. That song just speaks of how temporary life here is. Even with all the good times and blessings, the greatest blessing of all still awaits those of us who know Christ.

Old Rugged Cross

I thought this arrangement was so nice and loved how the musicians incorporated a hint of the original tune. As I recorded more than just the first verse we all typically are most familiar with, I was so touched by the powerful lyrics of the 2nd verse. “Oh, that old rugged cross, so despised by the world holds a wondrous attraction for me. For the dear lamb of God left His glory above to bear it to dark Calvary” I love the phrase "wondrous attraction" that paints a picture of great passion and desire for Jesus and what He bought with His blood.
